Celtic’s Chief of Sport Science Headhunted by RB Leipzig

Celtic’s Head of Sports Science Jack Nayler has left the club after being headhunted by German side RB Leipzig. Nayler was brought to Celtic in November 2016 by the then new Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers and was one of the few of the backroom staff who did not leave the club to join Rodgers at Leicester City in February 2019.

Instead he stayed on to work under both Neil Lennon and then interim manager John Kennedy but the new manager Ange Postecoglou will not get the chance to work with the Englishman as he has already left to join the big spending Bundesliga club.

Nayler goes to Germany with an impressive list of former employers on his CV: Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid and Celtic. He will work under Jesse Marsch who was linked with the Celtic job earlier this year but instead left Austrain giants Salzburg to join their Red Bull stable mates across the border in Germany.

RB Leipzig confirmed the appointment in this statement:

“Dr. Helge Riepenhof’s performance unit will be expanded next season to include the Sports Science department, which will be led by Jack Nayler.”

In his Linkedin Profile Nayler describes himself as being a multi-lingual Leader in High Performance Sport enabling athletes, coaches and organisations to strategically deliver success. Generalist fluent in sports, science, S&C, nutrition, leadership, coaching and development.

We wish him all the best in German football.
