Celtic’s former Head of Operations heading to Hapoel Tel Aviv

A report this evening claims that Celtic’s old Head of Operations Nick Hammond has landed a new job over the opposite side of the world. The talent spotter and general transfer manager spent 17 months with the Hoops before parting company after some rather questionable signings.

Albian Ajeti, Vasilis Barkas and Shane Duffy were all sourced and signed up by Hammond and really failed to deliever for the Hoops during the 2020/21 Covid season. Although to be fair to him, he did oversee some good signings like Jeremie Frimpong and Christopher Jullien. The pandemic never helped anybody, least of all players trying to settle into a new culture.

Now the ex-Newcastle United employee will be heading for the country of Israel with Hapoel Tel Aviv. The report in Scottish Sun has this update about Hammond’s new remit. “He’s set to move to Israel with Hapoel Tel Aviv, as they bid to end a 12-year run without a title. The club are about to be taken over by new American owners and appointing Hammond is one of the first things they will do once they complete the takeover.”

It now looks as though Hammond will have a new footballing adventure to enjoy and can immerse himself into a different culture than what he has been used to for most of his career and many will wish him well in his newest endeavour.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
