Celtic’s game changing deal, dignified approaches ignored and the adidas punch and pie story

THEIR DIGNIFIED APPROACHES to bosses at adidas clearly failed. The morning after the night before, when their season effectively ended the Rangers support woke up, after having nightmares about their defending and also the expected punishment that will inevitably come their way after a bottle was thrown at Bayer Leverkusen third goalscorer. Was his colour a factor might be asked, that’s they way they do it over in Govan so if they dish that sort of nonsense out they can take some too, no? Mr Traynor?

UEFA actually have more on their plate this morning, having just announced the postponement of all of next week’s matches in their competitions due to the coronavirus crisis.

The Rangers will surely do the right thing and recompense their travelling support who had booked up to travel to the second leg in Germany next Thursday. At least they won’t have to worry about that.

But they do have to worry about the statement from Celtic – their opponents in the Glasgow Derby match in Sunday which they need to narrow the gap to just 10 (Ten) points. Of course a defeat will see Celtic stretch the lead to a whopping 16 (Sixteen) points and it that happens it will be a Beautiful Sunday celebration of 9 (Nine) in a row in Govan for the 800 Celtic Supporters who will attend despite the risk to their health ( both coronavirus and bottle throwing).

They will suspect that Peter Lawwell has kept that news to today to achieve maximum GIRUY bang for the £25million bucks that adidas are committing to the Celtic cause. The Celtic statement released this morning is actually, they believe, designed to turn them GREEN and it is certainly doing that. The envy is reeking out of them over on social media.

Here’s what the Celtic statement says…

Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce that it has agreed a stunning new five-year partnership with adidas starting July 1st, 2020. adidas will become Celtic’s official kit supplier, covering both the men’s and women’s squads, in a deal which is believed to be the biggest kit sponsorship ever to be announced across Scottish sport.
adidas will create and manufacture first team kit, trainingwear as well as all supporter replica kits.

Treble Treble winners and current Premiership league leaders Celtic will be teaming up with the global leader in football. adidas is the official supplier of the most important football tournaments in the world, such as the FIFA World Cup™, the UEFA EURO 2020™ and the UEFA Champions League.

The sports brand already partners with some of the world’s top clubs including Real Madrid, Manchester United, Arsenal, FC Bayern Munich and Juventus.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell commented: “We are delighted to enter this new, long-term partnership with adidas, one of the world’s leading sports brands. We warmly welcome adidas to the Celtic Family and look forward to an exciting and successful partnership.

“We know through our discussions with adidas that they, as a prestige brand, were eager to be associated with a Club of Celtic’s stature and proud history – to be connected to the passion and commitment of our supporters and to Celtic’s wider vision and values.

“Likewise, everyone at Celtic is delighted to be partnering with one of the dominant names in sportswear manufacturing, an organisation which represents quality and excellence.

“This is a hugely significant new partnership for Celtic and our supporters and allows us to look to the future with confidence. To be able to create this fantastic new relationship demonstrates the strength and stability of the Club and the power of our enduring story.

“I would like to congratulate everyone at Celtic and adidas who have worked to deliver this fantastic new partnership between two of the world’s great sporting institutions, in particular, our Commercial Director Adrian Filby.”

“adidas added, “Celtic’s successful football history and future ambition make us hugely excited to be working together to create a new chapter with one of the most famous football clubs in the world.

“We are obsessed with helping athletes improve their game, life and world and as such we look forward to supporting Celtic’s players on the pitch as they continue to create new levels of success, and we are confident their legendary fanbase will love our designs.”

So it seems that their dignified letters to adidas all went unanswered. The sports brand had an indication of what it’s like to be involved with the old Ibrox side way back on 30 April 1994. Did you read our article about the Celtic Supporters who flew the plane over Ibrox after a spiteful David Murray decided to ban Celtic Supporters from a game there? You might have missed an update to that article about a Celtic supporter who was there, as a guest of adidas and he told us what happened to him in the fat cat seats when John Collins scored that free-kick. Read his story HERE.

That little incident right there was a marked-card moment for the Ibrox clubs who are currently without a kit deal of their own for next season and beyond.

But while this adidas deal that Celtic have announced today might be the biggest, best and most lucrative it certain is not the tastiest. Well according to Jim Spence, who told us about this one.

“The Hoops almost rivalling Dundee United’s legendary deal years ago with Frank Yorke’s butchers, which included free black pudding on match day for the squad, and Lorne sausage bonus for wins by a clear margin of three goals.”

If they throw in an apron them they could be in business over on Govan…
