Celtic’s ‘Greek God’ Giorgos Giakoumakis named as Star Man in the SPFL

Celtic’s ‘Greek God’ Giorgos Giakoumakis has been named as Star Man in the SPFL after his latest hat-trick at Celtic Park, this time against Ross County last Saturday.

‘This week’s star man comes from Celtic Park and a 4-0 victory for Ange Postecoglou’s side against an in-form Ross County. Giakoumakis scored a hat-trick and inadvertently set up the other when his attempt on goal was diverted into the net by Daizen Maeda,’ the official SPFL website states.

Last season Giakoumakis finished the campaign as the top goalscorer in the Eredivisie – despite his club VVV Venlo being relegated. He hit 26 goals in just 30 league appearances for the Dutch strugglers, quite incredible really.

And after a frustrating start to his time as a Celtic player due to injury issues, the former AEK Athens striker has gone through the gears since the return from the winter break – a period in which Celtic have dropped points just the once, in a goalless draw away at Easter Road against Hibs.

Giakoumakis’ good form at Celtic has earned him an international call-up and provided he comes through that unscathed then he’s certain to be leading the line for the Hoops at Ibrox on 3 April. Last time against theRangers, in the 3-0 win at Celtic Park at the start of last month, the Greek striker was very unlucky not to be among the goals.
