Good to see Gustav grab a goal for his country. Now let’s hope he kicks on in the Hoops…
Gustav Lagerbielke scored his first goal for his country as he helped Sweden to a 3-1 win over Moldova in an international friendly match yesterday. Gustav has had somewhat of a sticky start to his Celtic career most notably getting sent off against Feyenoord in Rotterdam, although in his defence, that was a rather harsh decision.
Some supporters have given him a bit of a hard time and that’s never understandable and it’s certainly not entirely fair. As just like his fellow defender and countryman Carl Starfelt before him, he’s just settling in to a new environment.
Gustav was highly rated back home in Sweden, indeed he was regarded as the best centre back in the Allsvenskan. He is also of course a full international so he’s got the talent that is for sure. He has shown in glimpses what he can do in the Hoops, but perhaps he’s not been as consistent as he hopes to be.
But he’s a young man and that should come with time, and working with a talented coach such as Brendan Rodgers will help him fulfil his huge potential. That I’m in no mistake of. Let’s hope he kicks on his career with Celtic, I for one I’m willing to give him that chance.
