Celtic’s interest in Ross Barkley ratified as Frank Lampard makes call

Celtic’s interest in Chelsea’s Ross Barkley appears to have been ratified by journalist Ben Jacobs. Frank Lampard appears to have decided against making a move for Barkley, which could potentially open the door for Celtic to sign the versatile midfielder.

Jacobs, a CBS Sport correspondent, was commenting on Chelsea’s bid for Everton’s Anthony Gordon when he mentioned their alleged interest in returning for Barkley. The 28-year-old is free to leave Chelsea this season and a number of clubs appear to be circling for his signature.

Lampard used Barkley while at Chelsea but his departure accelerated the ex-Everton midfielder’s movement out of the first team picture.

There have been murmurs of Celtic’s interest in Barkley but it appears to be picking up pace now. Barkley, an International teammate of Joe Hart, may be taking instructions from Hart regarding a move to the Scottish Champions.

The England Internationalist has 33 caps to his name and is keen on getting himself back playing regular football. After just 14 appearances last season, it is clear that the player’s time at Chelsea is up and as he enters his final year, it is clear that they will not stand in his way should a deal be struck.

Maybe we will see this by the end of the window…
