Celtic’s interest in signing Bayern Munich’s 19-year-old midfielder Christopher Scott

Well, this one would be a turn-up for the books! After losing Liam Morrison and Barry Hepburn as young prospects to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, Celtic are being linked, by Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg, to return the favour and nab Bayern’s 19-year-old midfielder Christopher Scott.

‘News Christopher Scott: His agent met FCB officials a few days ago. FC Bayern want to extend beyond 2022, club and pull an option but he wants to play regularly. Talks with Brentford & Celtic!’

Scott has six goals and two assists this season for Bayern Munich II, but has yet to taste first team football, and it is that search for top team appearances on a regular basis that apparently has the youngster looking for a club who may afford him such an opportunity.

Scott is out of contract in the summer and although there have been talks between his representatives and Bayern over the signing of a new deal, the lack of first team football is currently a stumbling block.

However, Celtic are not alone in keeping tabs on Scott, with EPL side – for the time being at least – Brentford also keen on the youngster.

Brentford have an impressive record of identifying emerging talent through a stringent analytical approach and intensive scouting system, and although they would certainly be a big rival to contend with in attracting the player, it should also be noted, given their reputation for spotting talent at affordable prices and developing them, that Celtic are keeping good company here. As such, whether successful or not, it appears a good indication of Celtic’s own scouting capabilities improving, as we now targeting players in exactly the sort of markets we’ve possibly been absent from in the past.

This one will be an interesting one to watch develop, given Celtic are often the club losing young talents to Bayern Munich, it would be welcome to see the shoe on the other foot for a change.

I thought I was a jinx, I think my Grandfather might have thought the same. It was the finest gift anyone ever gave me when he walked me through Parkhead's gates.
