Celtic’s Ivan Toney boost as Brentford fail to get promoted

CELTIC may still sign Ivan Toney after their rivals for his signature, Brentford failed to gain promotion to the Premier League. Yesterday, Raman Bhardwaj of STV said that Brentford were close to agreeing a deal for Ivan Toney. However with the Championship play-off defeat to Fulham, Celtic could yet take the initiative in the race for Toney offering the chance to win 10IAR and play European football.

With 48 goals in two seasons, Toney is hot property at the moment, even after Brentford failed to get promoted to the £145m jackpot of the Premier League. This could mean that they look elsewhere, away from Toney

Peterborough’s own failure to get promoted from League 1 has opened the gate to offers from Celtic and the defeated play-off finalists. Although Fry has accused Celtic of trying to get Toney on the cheap with their low-ball first offer.

The striker netted 26 times last season and is likely to command a fee upward of £5m and Celtic could be ready to return and test Posh’s resolve. Brentford appeared to be the favourites for the promotion with their side beating Fulham twice this season but falling narrowly short.
