Celtic’s Jeremie Frimpong Windfall Delay

The long touted windfall for Jeremie Frimpong at Bayer Leverkusen may drag on just a little bit longer it seems. Celtic sold the Dutchman in Janaury 2021 and made a tidy profit on the right-back at the time; selling him for £11.5 million or so and making an £8 million profit in the process after giving Manchester City their due.

Jeremie was a phenomenon in a Hoops shirt after signing from the English club and went on to be an instrumental part of the side that secured Nine-in-a-row for the Scottish Champions. As pacey as they come, Jeremie wreaked havoc with defences in the Scottish Premiership and left many sides bewildered at his outrageous pace and trickery on the ball.

Since moving to the Bundesliga, the little full-back has went from strength to strength in Bavaria and is now being courted by a handful of European clubs. But Manchester United and Erik Ten Hag are the most keen according to reports, and it had been touted a bid in the region of £20 million could be set to arrive on the desk of the Leverkusen board for his services from the Dutch coach.

However, transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on any potential fire – stating that Leverkusen do not want to lose Jeremie in the upcoming transfer window; preferring instead to hold off until summer when they may consider parting ways if the fee is right.

Taking to Twitter, he said:

“Bayer Leverkusen want to keep Jeremie Frimpong at least until the end of the season, unless ‘crazy’ proposal will be submitted. No negotiations ongoing as of now. #transfers Leverkusen expects important bids in the summer as top clubs are following Frimpong.”

Let’s hope for that ‘crazy’ offer then!

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
