Celtic’s latest French Fancy is Toulouse defender Christopher Jullien

CELTIC are interested in signing the Toulouse central defender Christopher Jullien as the direct replacement for Dedryck Boyata who left the club last month to sign for Hertha Berlin on a free transfer.

The respected French media outlet L’Equipe yesterday reported that the 26 year old had been given a tour of Celtic’s training facilities at Lennoxtown, this being exactly the same approach that Celtic used at the end of last year when they brought Timothy Weah over from Paris to have a look around and discuss a loan move.

Jullien will cost Celtic around €8-10 million – roughly the same amount that the club lost when former manager Brendan Rodgers refused to sanction a £9million bid for Boyata from Fulham las summer. However Celtic did receive a similar amount in compensation when Rodgers walked out at the end of February, taking macho of his backroom staff with him, to join Leicester City.

Jullien is just one appearance short of playing a hundred games in Ligue 1 over the past three seasons, is under contract at Toulouse until 2021. The intensity of matches at Celtic is a little more intense than that – he can ask Odsonne Edouard about that or maybe even some of the Scottish boys like Callum McGregor.

who has played 99 Ligue 1 matches in the past three seasons, is under contract until 2021.

Christopher Jullien also played for Auxerre, SC Freiburg, and on loan at Dijon before joining Toulouse.
