Celtic’s main alternative to Eddie Howe may be unattainable as he’s offered €8m a season elsewhere

Of course money isn’t everything for managers, but it must be hard to turn down an incredibly lucrative offer when you consider how volatile their position will usually be.

There’s still a feeling that Eddie Howe will be in charge of Celtic next year, but it looked like Celtic were trying to put some pressure on him to hurry up when reports emerged to suggest that Lucien Favre had been approached as the alternative.

There had been the occasional link with him when Neil Lennon first left but that report did appear to come from nowhere, and it’s worth noting that Favre does have other offers.

Get Football News France have reported that he was hoping to get a move to the Premier League, but he also has the option of moving to Saudi Arabia where Al Hilal are willing to pay him as much as €8m a season.

Obviously Celtic won’t be able to get anywhere close to matching that figure and there’s no sign that he’s pushing for the job at Parkhead, so it’s probably time to start sounding out some other alternatives.
