Talks ongoing: Celtic still hope to sign in-demand striker despite managerial uncertainty

It was always expected that the new manager may not be appointed until the summer, but it would be preferable if agreements can be made soon so the unveilings can take place.

It means that everyone will know what’s going on and the club can get a head start in terms of overhauling the squad for next year, but we could still see some transfers being agreed.

Wigan Athletic striker Kyle Joseph has been linked to Celtic for a few months now, and Football Insider have again reported that talks are ongoing between the club and the Scottish youth international.

There’s plenty of competition for his signature as Newcastle United and Spurs are also mentioned as potential landing spots, but he would surely have more chance of pushing for a first team spot at Celtic.

He’s out of contract in the summer so it’s reported that a compensation fee of around £200k will be required, while he’s played in a lot of their games this season so he’s clearly ready for senior football.

He’s never going to come in as the replacement for Eddy but depth will be needed as the futures of Klimala, Griffiths and Ajeti don’t look clear, so Joseph could be a promising third or fourth choice striker.

It would also make a lot of sense if Joseph is waiting to see who the new manager will be before committing to anything, but it does sound like Celtic are confident they can sign him up regardless.
