Celtic’s March; a pivotal month in the hunt for the Treble

Celtic will leave the month of February after a successful few weeks. Kicking off the month with a 3-0 win over theRangers and subsequently opening up a three point lead over the latest Ibrox club at the top of the league. Ange Postecoglou’s side progressed to the next stage of the Scottish Cup. Although there was a blemish on the form guide as Norwegian Champions Bodø/Glimt eliminated the Celts from Europe.

Looking forward into March, there are four matches, all of which could be pivotal in the hunt for the Treble.

2 March 22 – Celtic v St Mirren, 7:45pm KO. Scottish Premiership

Celtic follow up their draw against Hibernian at Easter Rd yesterday with a home game against Stephen Robinson’s St Mirren. The Paisley side frustrated Celtic in December, culminating in a 0-0 draw. However, having dropped points against Hibs, Celtic will look to set down a marker against the visitors.

6 March 22 – Livingston v Celtic, 12pm KO. Scottish Premiership

Celtic face a daunting challenge next weekend as they travel to West Lothian. Three managers have failed to win at The Tony Macaroni Stadium since they were promoted and Ange Postecoglou will hope that he is the first to buck that trend. It is a tough place to visit and Celtic’s hoodoo is self-inflicted. David Martindale’s side are unbeaten against Celtic this season, a run that they will be very proud of. However, if Celtic are to maintain hopes of winning the title, they need to put in a shift and take all three points at Livi.

Having Giorgos Giakoumakis can only improve Celtic’s chances as a player of his style would suit the surface. Although the manager will need to be ready to call upon a Plan B if Martindale’s team are tough to break down.

14 March 22 – Dundee United v Celtic, 7:45pm KO. Scottish Cup Quarter Final

Tannadice is the venue for this Monday Night Scottish Cup fixture. Having already won the League Cup, Celtic will target another trip to Hampden. Dundee United are no mugs. They will make things hard for Celtic, they will work tirelessly and try and win the game in moments. The result against theRangers recently highlights that they can be dogged. However, Celtic will be boosted by the fact that their previous visit to Dundee resulted in an excellent performance & win.

19 March 22 – Celtic v Ross County, 3pm KO. Scottish Premiership

Malky Mackay’s team are proving to be a really difficult opponent. They beat St Johnstone at the weekend and have taken points from theRangers, Aberdeen and Motherwell in recent weeks. Celtic’s last game against the Highlanders is enough to prove that they will be difficult to break down, defend for their lives and make things tough for Celtic.

If Celtic can conquer St Mirren, Livingston and Ross County (and assuming theRangers don’t drop any points), Ange’s team could head to Ibrox with a three-point cushion as well as a healthy lead at the top of the table. The natives will be on their team’s back from the start.
