Celtic’s Moussa Dembele Windfall in Focus

It looks like Celtic might get that long awaited Moussa Dembele transfer windfall after all. That’s according to Daily Express, who claim that Turkish giants Fenerbache are interested in taking the Frenchman to the same team as ex-Real Madrid and Arsenal superstar, Mesut Ozil.

The fee being quoted is significantly less than what Celtic’s board members would be looking for, however, at £18 million it still represents good business on the green and white side of the city. When the big striker left the club he managed to net the Hoops just under £20 million for his services. Added to this was a 10% sell-on when Lyon registered his name in France.

So, with an £18 million move to Fenerbache possibly in the offing, due to Alexandre Laccazette potentially coming back home from Arsenal to Lyon, Moussa could be heading for Turkey, with ex-Benfica boss Jorge Jesus now in charge at the Istanbul club. A significant seven figure sum could be on its way to Ange Postecoglou to help with the summer recruitment drive and refinement of the squad. Not to be sniffed at for sure.

Dembele was previously on-loan at Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid, when his option-to-buy was set at a tasty £28 million. However, having failed to impress with a mere five appearances to his name in the Spanish capital, he returned to Lyon to start again. How unfortunate that was for Michael Nicholson and co.

The big man will always be remembered for his torturing of theRangers and his displays in Europe. He was a real touch of class and wasn’t affraid to show it, nor put his big frame about the opposition defence. With 26 goals in 55 games in just two years, I’m sure if Moussa had the incline to stay we would be discussing a man who was in the Celtic century club undoubtedly.

There’s always room if you fancy another crack, Moussa.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.

Depends on the terms of the deal Celtic struck. These sell-on windfalls are often a percentage of profit, so if that is the case with MD then Celtic will get zilch as Lyon will not make a profit.
