Omonia Nicosia boss Neil Lennon plans move for Ismaila Soro

When Neil Lennon was on BBC Sportsound last weekend and kindly offered Ange Postecoglou some recruitment advice, I pointed out the ghosts of transfer windows past was a weight around the new manager’s neck, and perhaps Neil Lennon in his new role as boss with Omonia Nicosia could be of some assistance, by taking a few of those now deemed surplus to requirements back with him to Cyprus this summer.

That comment was very much tongue in cheek, but if you believe the Daily Record – I know, I know – and their ‘multiple reports’ in Cyprus story this morning, Neil Lennon may be about to offer a helping hand in offloading at least one player for Ange Postecoglou – Ismaila Soro.

With Daily Record reporting –

‘Neil Lennon has could be set to raid Celtic as he targets a move for Ismaila Soro, according to multiple reports in Cyprus. The former Hoops boss has enjoyed early success with Omonia having lifted the Cypriot Cup triumph within months of joining the Nicosia club.

‘Having secured Europa League football he is looking to revamp his side with reports in Cyrprus stating Soro is top of his summer wish list.’

Whether this story has much weight to it or not remains to be seen however Ismaila Soro was given plenty of opportunities early doors to show he could ccontribute to an Ange Postecoglou side, and as much as he’s a likeable sort and doesn’t lack for effort it was soon clear Soro wasn’t going to make the cut under this Celtic manager.

What is strange about this one, is despite Lennon signing the player he took a long time to introduce Soro to his Celtic team, even when the side were struggling desperately form and consistent results.

That said when he did come in Soro did fairly well under Lennon, so perhaps a move to Cyprus is a possibility after all – whether on loan or as a permanent arrangement.

That decision would of course need to be made by the player himself, however with little chance of first team football anytime soon at Celtic it would be wise for Soro to consider any options on the table.

Now Neil, how about a Swiss international striker and a left back who loves an Easyjet flight out of Glasgow?

You know it makes sense.
