Celtic’s New Deal Spree – First Forrest, now Bain, next Edouard and McGregor

AUTUMN is the time when Celtic, between the summer transfer window slamming shut and the winter window opening, concentrate on signing up some of our current crop of stars on new, improved and crucially extended contracts.

At this time last year both Tom Rogic, Olivier Ntcham and Leigh Griffiths signed new deals and this year we’ve now started to see the fruits of the various discussions that have been taking place. Yesterday afternoon, ahead of finally getting his song James Forrest signed a new year year deal – well done to the Green Brigade on adapting the “This is How if Feels to be Celtic,” chant, “Champions again as you know,” and this is the good bit as there’s the satisfying moment when you realise what’s happened here,”Jamesy Forrest here for Ten in a Row.”

Bye bye Brendan and all that.

Today it’s the turn of goalkeeper Scott Bain, who has signed his new deal and will be at Celtic until at least summer 2023. The good news broke this morning on the official Celtic website.

With veteran keeper Craig Gordon in the final year of his contract and the current first pick keeper Fraser Forster being on a season long loan from Southampton, it makes sense for Celtic to tie up Bain, the youngest of the three main keepers at Parkhead.

Bain was signed on a free from Dundee after he had fallen out with Neil McCann and that’s where he got his nickname ‘Boxer’ from – deliciously so. His last game was against Cluj in that horrible 4-3 defeat and he seemed to have been playing with a hand injury that kept him sidelined for a few months.

So far he’s played 45 games for Celtic and has won both the Premiership and the Scottish Cup. He made his debut on the first Beautiful Sunday in March 2018 at Ibrox , a story that was broken on The Celtic Star.

The other two players Celtic are working hard to sign up on new deals are striker Odsonne Edouard and midfielder Callum McGregor, both players are hopefully going to put pen to paper asap…

The worrying news last night that Bayo is likely to be out for at least six weeks means that Edouard is the only fully fit striker at the club. Leigh Griffiths is getting closer to a return to action but Neil Lennon has already admitted that another striker in January is the top priority.
