Celtic’s Shane Duffy subjected to more sickening online abuse

Celtic defender Shane Duffy has once again been the target of sickening online abuse from a Rangers supporter. The Irish defender shared a screenshot of messages he received on Instagram wishing him death and making a horrible comment about Duffy’s late father. This is the latest abuse of a footballer from a social media user amidst increased scrutiny about the platform’s security measures.

The Ireland captain has struggled since arriving from Brighton on a season-long loan and it has been a hard watch for supporters as the big central defender tries to kickstart his form with his boyhood team. However, he is a man with a family and does not deserve to receive such sickening abuse from people. No one deserves this sort of abuse, regardless of what team they support. The police and all social media platforms must take action as the daily stories about players receiving abuse must stop.

  1. How do you know the offensive message was posted by a Rangers supporter, Celtic Star jumping to conclusions or just being bigoted ?
