Chelsea release injury hit former Celtic loanee Charly Musonda

Chelsea have today released former Celtic loanee, Charly Musonda. Musonda came to Celtic in the January of 2018 with a great deal of pedigree, having been highly coveted and sought after when Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers snagged the player in the winter transfer window that season.

The Daily Express have now reported that Chelsea and the ex-Celtic loanee have now parted ways following a terrible run of injuries and fitness concerns these past few years. 25-year-old Musonda only featured four times during that loan spell, which brought accusations and rumours of an attitude problem with the youngster.

He would provide the Celtic support with one parting gift when he assisted now captain Callum McGregor with his goal in the Europa League knockouts at Parkhead versus Russian giants Zenit Saint Petersburg. He showed in glimpses the talent and attributes that encouraged the Stamford Bridge side to hand onto the attacking-midfielder.

Unfortunately, it was not to be for the Belgian, after successive loans and a meagre seven appearances whilst garnering one goal in a Chelsea shirt, the player suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury back in 2019. Sadly he was informed he had just a 20% chance of playing the game he loved again.

But in a miraculous turn of events, Charly has managed to make a recovery from this horrific injury to play a first game in over two seasons last year. Now he will be looking for employment opportunities elsewhere, as he departs the London club in search of a new home for his footballing talents.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
