Sometimes a club will come out and demand a ridiculous figure for a player, in the hope that any potential interest will quickly die down.
The problem then comes when they sell them for a lesser amount as it can leave them looking foolish, so it will be interesting to see what happens with Clermont striker Adrian Grbic.
A report from HITC has claimed that Celtic are interested in signing the Austrian striker, who has really broken through in France’s second tier this year.

He posted some fairly average figures during his time in Austria, but a move to Clermont Foot has seen him score 17 goals in 26 games, so it’s understandable that some clubs might be having a look.
The report also credits Brighton and the Rangers with an interest, but we all know by now that it’s so easy to link both Celtic and their rivals with the same player.
They also go on to claim that Clermont are demanding around £9m to let him go, which would be a staggering amount if things were normal.
When you also consider that a lot of clubs will not have much money to spend in the next couple of years, that should be enough to kill any interest in the striker.
Of course it’s possible that this is just bluster and they may end up taking a smaller amount, but it’s also worth remembering that The BBC reported that Celtic broke their record when they paid around £8m to sign Odsonne Edouard a couple of years ago.
Paying more than that in the current climate for a player who hasn’t proven themselves in a top league would be a big gamble, so it seems unlikely to happen at this point.
