Commons eviscerates Ibrox bottlers

Kris Commons has taken a pop at the current crop of players now employed by the Ibrox entity, suggesting that none of them actually good enough to play for Aston Villa following Mr Slippy’s departure. This comes after ramblings from certain sects of the media about who Gerrard would return to theRangers for after taking over the Midlands club.

Writing in his MailOnline column, the ex-Celtic playmaker said:

“I just happen to believe those discussions won’t be taking place. Not because there aren’t talented players at Ibrox. There plainly are. But none of them are guaranteed to make Villa any better.”

“Rangers’ stand-outs defensively are James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and Borna Barisic. But are they going to improve Villa? I’d be extremely doubtful of that.”

“I just don’t think there’s an absolute stand-out in the Rangers squad who would make Villa better.”

“Put it this way. There have been so many rumours over the past 12 months about Morelos, Kent, Goldson and Barisic — but no one has bought them. So I don’t see why that changes just because Steven Gerrard is now the Villa boss.”

Commons is spot on when he calls out the pseudo-superstars playing within the Ibrox walls. For some time now we have had to sit and listen to just how much their world beaters are worth, how much value is in the squad – made abundantly worse by their winning of the Covid Cup last season.

The fact of the matter is that if they were all as good as they are made out to be they would have left Scottish football by now; dare I say following in the footsteps of Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard but to name a few. Good players have a natural shelf-life in this country, that is a pure and simple fact. Morelos had a great season last year and not one club was willing to bite the bullet and take a chance on him.

Likewise, look at the much heralded Glen Kamara and James Tavernier (who scored a bucketload of goals in 2020). The same could be said of many others who have played under Gerrard in his tenure as manager of the Govan side. Facts speak for themselves: nobody wants to buy these guys or else they would be off. And considering the £100M black hole that’s in their accounts I find it dubious to say the least that the hierarchy over there wouldn’t bite the hand off for a fee more than the peanuts they were paid for Josh Windass – which is still their highest transfer fee received in the nine years they have been a football club.

Not to mention they are serial bottlers!

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.

  1. I’m sure Commons also said somethin daft about Glen Kamara not going to score 20 goals a season smh. That’s not his job & as I thought Slippy G is going in for him in January. I would think that Morelos has no chance. Kent, Aribo & Tavernier maybe. Patterson yes. Ryan Jack (very under-rated imo) possibly. The more the merrier .. & the funnier imo
    The End.
