Contact made: Ben Davies looks set to play for Celtic next season after all

The January transfer window is always full of panic signings, but it really does look like Liverpool signing Ben Davies was a textbook example.

Perhaps that deal was done before they agreed to sign Ozan Kabak, but Davies hasn’t been able to break into the team after returning from injury in the past few weeks.

Immediately that raises the question about him moving on in the summer, and Celtic are an obvious candidate to make a move for him due to their previous interest.

A report from Todo Fichajes has revealed that Celtic have already made contact with Liverpool about a potential move this summer, and it does look like this could happen.

It’s suggested that Davies can already see that he’s not going to be a regular starter at Liverpool so he’s already looking for a way out, but it’s expected that any move would be a loan deal with an option to buy for Celtic.

If it does happen then it makes the transfer to Liverpool look nothing short of bizarre, but it could just be the case that he hoped he would get a chance due to injuries and he would play well enough to prove he belonged at that level.

Obviously this still needs to wait until Celtic appoint a new manager as the last thing he needs is to sign and realise the new boss does fancy him and he’s frozen out again, but it looks like he will be a Celtic player after all next season.

It’s probably a tougher one to sell for the fans because he now looks like a Premier League flop rather than a Championship star who’s on the way up, but he’s clearly a solid defender and Celtic desperately need to add a few of those this summer.
