Copenhagen Manager Admits Attempt to Sign Celtic Star

Copenhagen’s manager Stale Solbakken has admitted that he once tried to sign Celtic’s star youngster Kris Ajer ahead of this evenings clash with the Scottish Champions in the Round of 32 of the Europa League.

The Norwegian manager has revealed to the Scotsman that while he doubts his side can’t afford any of Celtic’s players now he wanted to sign Ajer but failed to match the speed of the offer by Celtic meaning they missed out on the promising youngster.

“I don’t think we could afford any of Celtic’s players. But maybe I should have signed Ajer when he was 17 and playing in Norway. We were probably too slow then.

“We knew about him very early when he was a striker and then a central midfielder at Start, their captain when he was very young. Maybe we should have pulled the trigger then.

“But that’s the only one I think we could have afforded in competition with Celtic.”

Ajer joined Celtic having signed for Ronny Deila in the January prior to his departure. Brendan Rodgers decided that the young Norwegian talent would be better utilised as a defender and began retraining the prodigy. He spent time with Lee Clark’s Kilmarnock and returned to Celtic as a prominent part of the first team, where he has been ever since.

Ajer used his striking instincts in the 2-1 win at Pittodrie on Sunday as he fired a late winner to down the Dons and consolidate Celtic’s ten point lead at the top of the Premiership.
