Couto wants Man City stay as he stalls on Celtic loan move

Manchester City’s Yan Couto is weighing up his options amidst interest from a number of clubs in Europe. The Brazilian right-back watched Celtic’s 3-0 win over FK Jablonec as Ange Postecoglou searches for a new full-back to compete with Anthony Ralston. However, the player told City Xtra that he wants to remain at the English Champions and gain exposure from Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola.

Although, the player also confirmed that he understands the need to gain first-team experience and as a result, would be open to moving clubs on a short-term deal, with a few interested in his signature. Celtic would face a battle with Spanish side Girona and a number of Portuguese clubs for the signature of the highly-rated 19-year-old. Couto made 30 appearances, scoring twice and then assisting five times for the Liga 2 side. City may prefer that he gains exposure at a higher level and the opportunity to play in Europe with City could represent the best move for the player’s progression as a player.

Celtic are still in talks with Legia Warsaw over the signature of Josip Juranovic as Ange Postecoglou hunts a new full-back. The club are clearly weighing up a number of options with Couto and/or Juranovic the most likely to sign before the deadline. Hopefully, Celtic will have a new full-back in the coming days as Ange looks to make sure his team is as strong as possible for the end of the window.

The fact that Couto was at Celtic Park suggests a deal is there to be done if the player wishes but he is clearly not rushing to make a decision on his future.
