Hearts manager targeting upset at Celtic Park

Hearts manager Robbie Neilson has said that his team are targeting a second triumph over Celtic in the space of a few weeks. The Jambos boss has two wins from two in the League but even with the prospect of playing in front of a full Celtic Park, Neilson insists his side are going into the game full of confidence.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Neilson insists that his players will go into this fixture with enormous confidence on the back of a strong League Cup start to the season as well as the two wins in the League.

“Momentum is big. It affects the mentality of the players. We know that it can change quickly in football.

“The key generally is that if it goes the wrong way you turn it around as quick as you can. The players have managed to do that previously but we need to keep this winning mentality going as long as we can.

“We’re winning games, that’s the most important thing. That’s what a football club is about. We’ve managed to win the first six games of the season and we need to continue it.

“The club’s had a difficult 18 months but it’s turning now and we’re starting to get the positivity back but we need to keep on winning to do that.

“My mindset is still the same. We want to go there and win. We’re in the cup, we’ve got the chance to go and progress into the next round.

“We’ve got a really good team here, we need make additions to give us more strength in depth in the squad, but the actual first 11 to 14 players here are very good. We go into it with a lot of confidence.”

Neilson’s side ran out 2-1 winners in the Premiership opener against Celtic. The late goal from John Souttar compounded Ange Postecoglou’s team to a defeat but they have since responded with three wins in a row. The game will have a capacity side at Paradise as Celtic look to seal their progression in the League Cup.

After winning four League Cups in a row, Celtic were beaten by Ross County last season as St Johnstone won the trophy. Now, Postecoglou will be targeting success at his first chance at silverware, beginning with Sunday’s game against Hearts.
