Deal close – Fabrizio Romano update on Liverpool deal with massive Celtic implications

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that a deal to take Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool is close to being completed. The Italian transfer journalist claims that personal terms are progressing with a view to the ex-Celtic wingback to the English Champions.

Liverpool secured the Premier League title thanks to a win over Spurs but following the success, it was confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold would be leaving the club for Real Madrid. Arne Slot is an admirer of compatriot Frimpong, who was a key figure in Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga success last season.

A deal has serious ramifications for Celtic as it means that £5.5m will be returning to the club’s coffers as a result of a sell-on clause inserted back in 2021. Celtic can use the extra cash to deepen their squad with a view to returning to the UCL.

Frimpong meanwhile will be excited at the prospect of working with Slot and another ex-Celt, Virgil Van Dijk. Liverpool will be looking to build on an impressive first season under Slot in which they stormed to the Premier League title.
