Deal done – Jack Aitchison leaves Celtic for Barnsley

JACK AITCHISON has signed for English Championship side Barnsley. The 20-year-old is the youngster ever competitive scorer for the Parkhead side but has sought pastures new, signing a three year deal in England. He will be loaned out to a League Two side in order to further his progress.

According to Transfermarkt, Aitchisonwas supposed to have another year left on his deal at Celtic; however, given that he has failed to really make an impact since 2016, it is likely that he will be happy to move on so that his career doesn’t stall.

Stephen McGowan of the Daily Mail said there would be no significant outgoings today as the Scottish Champions look to retain their best players.

Barnsley may offer Aitchison an ample size to really get some game time and get back amongst the goals. Despite that famous day against Motherwell in 2016, Aitchison has never really kicked on to being the next big thing and a number of factors could have contributed to that.

Hopefully if Celtic have any authority in the deal they will add a sell-on clause and potentially a buy-back so that they get a degree of return for their investment into the young attacker.
