Dembele on Celtic: ‘I’m a fan now, it is the greatest club in the world,” Moussa to Sutton

One former Celtic striker speaking to another, an Englishman speaking to a Frenchman and both have developed a real passion for Celtic that remains as strong as ever after their time wearing the Hoops came to an end. Here is Chris Sutton talking to Moussa Dembele who says ‘I’m a fan now, it is the greatest club in the world.”

Dembele still gets some criticism for leaving Celtic but it should be remembered he was signed for a development fee of under £500,000 and was sold for just under £20m and he only came to Celtic to develop, play in the Champions League and then get a move to one of the bigger leagues. That was how we got him, it is a formula that works well and indeed had it been followed – as was the initial plan this season, probably would have resulted in an entirely different campaign.

Let’s assume selling Edouard and Christie in the summer and bringing in Toney and playing Turnbull from the beginning of the season. Worse off on the pitch? maybe £40m more funds in the club and maybe a title in the offing? Who knows but slagging players for leaving isn’t the way to go.

Dembele also found himself tied up in the Lawwell v Rodgers power struggle too. Most fans though harbour no ill feelings against a player who will bring further funds into our club this summer if he completes his permamanet move to Atletico Madrid from Lyon, with Celtic pocketing the sell-on fee.
