Denmark v Scotland – Two Celts involved, McGregor starts, Turnbull on the bench

Callum McGregor starts for Scotland this evening in the World Cup qualifier against Denmark in Copenhagen and his Celtic teammate David Turnbull is on the bench. Steve Clarke’s Scotland team is as follows:

Gordon (GK), Robertson (c), Gilmour, Hanley, Tierney, McGregor, Adams, McKenna, Cooper, Fraser, McLean.

Substitutes: Kelly (GK), Clark (GK), Dykes, Christie, Hendry, Gallagher, Ferguson, Turnbull.

James Forrest and Greg Taylor had to withdraw from the squad due to injuries and Anthony Ralston has NOT been given a call-up despite Clarke being desperately short of players with multiple other call-offs. To be fair to the Scotland manager it’s pretty difficult to include late additions due to the covid restrictions in place with FIFA and also the restrictions on entering Denmark.

Denmark reached the semi-finals of the European Championships in the summer and top this World Cup Group. A draw would be an outstanding result for Scotland but even that seems unlikely. The game is live on Sky Sports.
