Celtic legend Scott Brown has left Ayr United by mutual consent after a shocking run with the Championship side. The ex-Scotland captain departs after a nine game run without a victory, leaving after a defeat to Raith Rovers in Kirkcaldy.
The midfielder bowed out at Celtic after 620 appearances and 22 trophies in the Green and White but has been working hard to make it in management. Brown had a varied spell with Fleetwood Town, something that has happened at Ayr United.
Broony came in and steadied the ship, guiding Ayr from relegation and helping them to a 3rd placed finish, losing in the Playoffs. This season has been mixed and the poor run has resulted in the Honest Men dropping out the promotion places.
A quick scroll on social media suggests that the decision was not a surprise to the Ayr United supporters, who expected Broony and Whittaker to leave as a result of the poor run of form.
The opportunity to make it as a manager will motivate Brown but he will be considering his next options after the bruising end to his time at Somerset Park. A number of clubs will likely be interested in Brown, who will be wanting to take some time before taking his next steps in the game.
