After theRangers supporting pairing of John Beaton and Steven McLean on Sunday for the Scottish Premiership Glasgow Derby match that ended all square with a 2-2 draw, the Scottish FA has confirmed the match officials for this Sunday’s re-match, once again at Ibrox but this time in the Scottish Cup quarter final.
And it will be a surprise to no-one that there’s a strong hint of staunchness about a number of the match officials this week, just like last Sunday. Did you see angst of John Beaton’s face after he was called to the screen to review the footage before with great sadness and reluctance had to go back onto the pitch and point to the spot to give Celtic the penalty?

Next up on Sunday for the Scottish Cup tie that will be played to a finish, we have Don Robertson with the whistle and Andrew Dallas on VAR. Makes you wonder how many consecutive weeks we’d have to play them before the Scottish FA have to resort to appointing match officials who aren’t actually supporters of one of the teams involved in the Glasgow Derby match. Are there no match officials from Dundee, Inverness or Aberdeen? Why do we have so many from Lanarkshire?
So Don Robertson will referee the Scottish Cup quarter-final at Ibrox on Sunday 8th March, with the kick-off being an hour later than last Sundays game, starting at 1pm. Robertson will be assisted by Ross Macleod and David Roome while Andrew Dallas with be the VAR and he will be assisted by Matthew MacDermid, the match official who sent Auston Trusty off against Hibs.
Before Celtic’s attention turns to the return trip to Ibrox, there’s a crucial match tomorrow evening for Martin O’Neill’s side in the re-arranged game up at Pittodrie against Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership. A win would see Celtic leapfrog theRangers to second in the table and five points behind Hearts who have to come to Parkhead after the split.

It’s nothing new to ourselves, with having to overcome cheating and corrupt officials. It remains a massive issue, that destroys the credibility of Scottish football as a result.
But this season has to be right up there, with the amount of cheating officials we have to overcome imo?
