Don’t expect Ange raid on Celtic despite the headlines in Scottish media

Jota is the latest Celtic player to be linked with a reunion with Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham. Kyogo, Reo Hatate and Cameron Carter Vickers have all already been linked with a move to North London by the Scottish mainstream media.

There was an article in The Guardian last week looking in depth at the possible signings that Ange would be looking at for Tottenham and in that comprehensive list there was not a single Celtic player mentioned, despite the headlines in the Scottish papers.

It isn’t surprising though as all four players linked are top quality, but the SMSM are always quick to link our players with moves away, and with Ange relocating to North London it’s an easy story, or more like lazy journalism.

Ange Postecoglou is of course well aware of the qualities of all four Celtic players, given that he signed them for the club. I doubt Ange is interested in trying to bring any of them to Tottenham, which is good for us. When Brendan left for Leicester City he too was linked with a raid for his former players, but as we know that didn’t materialise.

The truth is that Ange is now shopping in a different market. He is now in the position to negotiate lucrative transfer fees and salary’s, something he was restricted in doing at Celtic. He had his hands tied in that department, but now he has an opportunity to recruit a bigger class of player, that’s just the reality, due to the mind boggling sums of money on offer in the English Premier League.

That has been proven with his recent dealings in the transfer market which has seen him splash out £40 million on James Maddison, and more bigger purchases are due to follow.

Whether that will include any of our star players remains to be seen, but don’t expect an exodus of players heading out the exit door to join their former mentor, despite what you may read in the papers.
