It was a bitter blow to find out yesterday afternoon that Cameron Carter Vickers would miss tonight’s clash against Dortmund in the Champions League…
We just have to deal with CCV being ruled out and instead it will be a big test for his stand Auston Trusty.
The American international defender looked calm and assured in the 6-0 win over St Johnstone. Carter-Vickers brings unrivalled strength and presence to the Celtic side so will be missed but after a difficult debut against Falkirk in the League cup-tie, Trusty performed much better against St Johnstone and will be ready for this evening’s enormous challenge.
Coping against St Johnstone, and coping against the might that is Borussia Dortmund are two completely different things though, and tonight he will be tested to the full alongside the rest of the Celtic defence.
Our defence, as good as it’s been this campaign, hasn’t really been tested too much. However, tonight that will all change and each and every one of our backline will have to concentrate for the full ninety plus minutes.
The spotlight will certainly be on the USA International since the club splashed out £6 million to bring him to Glasgow in the last day of the transfer window. Trusty’s price tag, despite not being a big fee at this level, will bring extra pressure on him and whether that’s fair or not, it’s just the way it is.
Auston will be expected to perform well tonight, let’s hope he does just that and plays his part in would could be a memorable night for the Hoops.
