Double Blow! Broony and Griffiths ruled out for RB Leipzig v Celtic

SCOTT BROWN will miss Celtic’s trip to Leipzig this week and also the Betfred Cup semi-final against Hearts after the scan on his right calf showed the extent of the injury problem.

The skipper is also likely to miss the midweek trip next week to Dens Park to face rock bottom Dundee – who lost 3-0 at home this evening to Hearts with Celtic’s on loan defender Calvin Miller missing a penalty in the first half for the Dees.

Brown is targeting the Hearts Premiership game the next week at Celtic Park for his return to action.

Also missing out on the trip to Germany will be Leigh Griffiths who is now targeting the semi-final at Murrayfield for his return to action after missing the Hibs game at the weekend through a combination of illness and injury.

Brendan Rodgers will also have to make alternative plans in the next two matches against both RB Leipzig and Hearts to deal with the suspensions due to red cards.

James Forrest will miss the Europa League match in Germany after picking up a red card in Salzburg last time out. And on Sunday Dedryck Boyata will serve his suspension after his late dismissal at McDiarmid Park in the quarter final.

Brendan Rodgers is considering deploying Ryan Christie in Germany and Jozo Simunovic is likely to come in on Sunday to play alongside Celtic’s Merry Plough Bhoy Filip Benkovic to make it all Croatian central defence at the home of Scottish Rugby.

Celtic have sold out all 30,000 tickets and Hearts are currently sitting at 27,000 sales. After tonight’s win, which puts them 6 points clear of Celtic who have a game in hand, the feel-good factor is likely to be enough to ensure that their end is completely full too. It is going to be quite an experience.

Celtic got the chance to train on the pitch at Murrayfield earlier today, something that Brendan Rodgers insisted on when the SPFL stitched up the semi-final locations. Today was the Celtic manager’s first time ever at Murrayfield.
