Support Matt Corr – After Leipzig, it’s the Parlour and the New York Marathon

MATT CORR, one of the excellent writers on The Celtic Star team, is as many of you will know, is also a popular Tour Guide at Celtic Park.

Matt recently wrote about the back corridor between the boardroom and the tunnel at Celtic Park – see HERE.  He has also written diary pieces for The Celtic Star from recent European trips to Athens and Salzburg, and has contributed many other memorable articles on the site, notably on Celtic’s story in the early 1980s.

On 4 November, Matt will take part in the New York Marathon and he is inspired to do this by Brother Walfrid and for The Celtic FC Foundation.

Matt has already completed many marathons including Dublin, London and Berlin. He has been off the Guinness (well almost, see the diary links above) and has been training hard over the summer and autumn to be ready for the Big Apple challenge.

Matt was interviewed on the official Celtic website today and he gave an insight into what he has been going though to get himself fit and ready to run.

“I’m really looking forward to getting over to New York now for the run,” Matt said.

“Training has been going really well and I’ve managed to take in three half-marathons since May. Myself and three of my family members did the Edinburgh race and then in July I took part in the Midnight Sun Run in Tromso, which was incredible.

“My eldest son and I then completed the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow last month and I managed to beat an eight-year-old half-marathon personal best, so I’m feeling good.

“That was a brilliant day and I bumped into a lot of the others who were running for the Foundation.”

Matt will take a break from the punishing running schedule and the Celtic Park tours this week to head over the Germany to see the Bhoys take on Leipzig in the Europa League on Thursday. Hopefully he’ll have the time and energy to write up his diary for The Celtic Star and wouldn’t it be nice for him to get a positive result to tell us about!

After getting back from Leipzig , Matt’s focus will return to New York, a city he’s visited several times. He is also planning a visit to the Parlour Bar to watch Celtic’s SPFL match against Hearts.

“This will be my fourth time in New York and every time I have been there I have watched a game at the Parlour Bar, so I’m looking forward to that,” Matt explained.

“I’ve already been in touch with the guys there to let them know that I’m doing the run and that I’ll be popping in.

“I also have cousins in New York, so it’s great to know that I will have a good bit of support over there.”

Through his efforts, Matt is aiming to raise £1,000 for Celtic FC Foundation and he feels that will be the perfect motivation for when the marathon is at its toughest.

“From experience, usually it’s around 19 miles in that the body starts to shut down but knowing that I’m helping others, even in a very small way, really helps me to push myself towards the finish,” Matt said.

“I love running these events, so if someone can benefit from my participation then I’m delighted. It would be great to raise as much as possible for a wonderful cause.”

If you enjoy Matt’s articles on The Celtic Star or even if you just admire what he is working so hard to achieve for The Celtic FC Foundation, then please support him, if you possibly can, by donating HERE.

As things stand at the back of 8pm on Tuesday evening Matt has had £365 pledged towards his £1000 target for The Celtic FC Foundation. Let’s see if we can get that a little higher tonight – after all, he’s one of our own!
