Dundee manager Tony Docherty has confirmed that Trevor Carson will be unavailable to face Celtic on Wednesday evening. The Irish goalkeeper has started the last two games after coming in to the starting XI at the expense of Jon McCracken.
Speaking to The Courier ahead of the trip to Celtic Park, Docherty admitted that he has a few injury concerns – including Carson.
“McGhee has trained this week so he’ll come back into the squad for the match.
“Fraser won’t make it. The game has come a wee bit too early for him.
“Trevor Carson’s another one added to that. Trevor’s out of the squad for tomorrow night.
“Trevor picked up a wee knock so he’ll be out of contention. I’m hoping they’ll make a full recovery and be back in contention for Sunday.
“Joe Shaughnessy and Charlie Reilly are also still out.”
Carson has come into the starting XI in the last two games but Dundee will not be relying on throwing a sub goalkeeper in as they have an able alternative. Docherty will need to recall McCracken, who has been wrestling to regain his No.1 status from Carson at the Tayside club. The 24-year-old will be hoping to impress as he looks to catch the eye of Steve Clarke, who included him in the Scotland squad for the October fixtures.
Carson was the Dundee goalkeeper last season when Celtic beat the Dark Blues 7-1 in an enthralling evening at Celtic Park. Brendan’s side will be looking to do the same but Docherty will be hoping his side can frustrate Celtic.
