Celtic’s trip to Tannadice is clearly a must win match today after both of our title challenges won their home matches as expected yesterday…
The focus and the pressure therefore transfers to the current Scottish Champions who have to play both sides either side of the international break starting today at Tannadice. Martin O’Neill knows the significance of today’s game and also appreciates that Jim Goodwin’s side will provide Celtic with a tough challenge on what is set to be difficult playing surface.
“I think that it will be a really difficult game for us,” the Celtic manager said via the official Celtic website. “We know that anyway. As long as we’re mentally prepared for it, that’ll be absolutely fine. I’m sure that even with a couple of days of sun, the pitch won’t improve that much. I think it’ll be the same for both sides, so we’ll just get on with it. It’s a big game but there will be plenty of twists and turns before the end of the season.”

A mixed bag here with Callum McGregor set to return, perhaps to the bench but knowing Calmac as we do he’ll be in the starting XI ready to drive the team forward from the word go. That’s the positive news but on the other side of the coin it looks like Julian Araujo will miss out today.
The Mexico international right-back has become something of a cult figure with the Celtic support but he won’t make today’s match. Apparently he was down at Bournemouth this week as his parent club assessed the injury. Hopefully it’s nothing too serious. Arne Engels is close to a return but will not be risked at this stage, so we are likely to see him back for our upcoming trip to Dens Park after the international break.
Viljami Sinisalo is now beyond doubt the first choice Celtic goalkeeper. Kasper Schmeichel’s news delivered via an American broadcaster before Martin O’Neill knew of the injury situation, effectively ends his Celtic playing career. Kasper was back at training at Lennoxtown on Friday working in a new role assisting in the goalkeeper coaching but with his contract expiring at the end of season, his time at Celtic will be up.
Colby Donovan looks set to replace Julian Araujo today. Alistair Johnston is back training but the long-term lay-off means that today is way too early for him to be in contention. Auston Trusty is available after suspension and could replace Benjamin Arthur who has impressed during the America’s suspension. Liam Scales will partner Trusty with Kieran Tierney at left back.
In the middle of the park Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will make way for the Celtic captain’s return. Callum McGregor will be joined by the in-form Reo Hatate and Benjamin Nygren with the front three likely to be Yang on the right, Daizen Maeda on the left and Tomas Cvancara through the middle.

Today we have Nick Walsh with the whistle while David Dickinson will be on VAR duties, and his own allegiances are of course very well known. The Scottish FA confirmed the full line-up earlier this week via their official website.
At Tannadice today match referee Nick Walsh will be assisted by will be assisted by Daniel McFarlane and David McGeachie running the lines. Meanwhile back at VAR HQ blue-nose David Dickinson will be assisted over at Clydesdale House by Andrew Dallas, another supporter of you know who.

We got the 3-1 scoreline correct last weekend for Celtic’s win over Motherwell. Hopefully we can continue that today with our prediction of a 3-0 victory for the Hoops, with Maeda, Nygren and Cvancara all getting on the scoresheet. Let’s be honest, we’d take a snappy 1-0 win now. It’s all about the three points but there’s nothing wrong with putting on the style the Glasgow Celtic way.
