Dundee’s hilarious Wednesday update involving former Celtic player

Dundee FC announced Tony Docherty as their manager earlier this week. The 52-year-old was appointed following an extensive process led by ex-Celtic manager Gordon Strachan. Docherty has had vast experience as a No.2 working alongside Derek McInnes and will be looking to build a team in his image ahead of the new season as he looks to make the Dens Park a regular feature in the top league.

On Wednesday evening, The Dees posted an update regarding the squad with confirmation of players that would be leaving the club following the expiration of deals. However, there was one player that they were unable to get in touch with to confirm his future, former Celtic kid Paul McGowan.

In their statement, Dundee confirmed that they had not been able to establish contact with Gowzer.

The Club has been unable to get in touch with Paul McGowan and an update will be given regarding Paul once contact has been made with him.

The 35-year-old spent part of the season on-loan with Dunfermline as they earned promotion to the Championship; however, he started his career with Celtic, joining the club at age 12 and signing a deal aged 16.  McGowan broke onto the scene making his debut under Gordon Strachan in September 2007. He held, until 2019, the record for being the last Celtic player to score and assist in Europe with the feat being achieved in the 2009 fixture against Rapid Vienna.

The player left Celtic for St Mirren in the search for regular football. McGowan has had a number of off-field issues and has been known for some erratic behaviour. Although, this appears to be quite an amusing update.

The update also confirmed that another former Celt, and teammate of McGowan’s, Cillian Sheridan would be released but supported by the Dark Blues as he recovers from injury.
