Elyounoussi coy on permanent Celtic stay

Moi Elyounoussi is remaining coy on speculation that he might remain in Glasgow for next season, signing on a permanent deal from Southampton. The Norwegian is currently preparing to face Rangers in The Scottish Cup this afternoon and as reported by The Sun, the winger is saying that he isn’t thinking about his next move.

Southampton are said to be willing to have him return to the club but are also open to selling him in order to raise funds and fans are hoping that under a new manager, Elyounoussi can constantly find the top level that he has occasionally shown glimpses of this season. However, the player is focusing on the next few games before the end of the season – where he will decide his future.

“I will give you my honest answer, I haven’t thought much about what my future is going to be. We still have a few games left to play this season, and my main focus is on Celtic.
“I want to do my best for the club and then after the season ends I will think about what is best for my career. But at the moment, I really haven’t thought about it.”

The Saints also know that they won’t recoup anywhere near the £16m that the paid Basel three years ago as Elyounoussi has just two years left on his deal on the south coast, which is where Celtic could swoop and seal a bargain.

Elyounoussi was signed at the end of the 2019 summer window and impressed in his first season despite a spell out with injury. Meanwhile this season, he scored 19 goals and assisted 7 in 40 appearances. Fans think that the club should sign the Norwegian if a deal can be struck as we have seen Moi at his best on a few occasions this season but ultimately it hasn’t been enough – maybe due to the management.
