English clubs interested in taking Jonathan Afolabi on loan

Celtic signed Jonathan Afolabi earlier in the summer after his contract with Southampton ran out. And although the youngster has impressed for the Celtic developmental side, he has not been able to break into Neil Lennon’s senior team.

As a result, it does not appear to be the worst idea in the world to send out the 20-year-old on loan till the end of the season to a club where he’ll get the taste of regular football at the senior level. Neil Lennon also seems open to the idea and is now set to listen to loan offers for Afolabi. A decision on his future will be made by the end of this month.

According to Football Insider, multiple League One and League Two clubs are interested in the striker’s services. And Afolabi also seems to be interested in playing at a higher level. Thus it could be a win-win situation for all parties involved.

Right now, Afolabi is nowhere near the Celtic first-team and a loan move seems to be the logical step for his development. He has done well for the developmental side and should not have too many issues playing in the lower leagues of English football, especially having come through Southampton.
