Rocco Vata has been offered a new four-year contract to extend his stay beyond the summer, with the player expected to give his answer in the coming days, according to transfer expert and journalist Nicolo Schira.

Anthony Joseph of Sky Sports reported last Tuesday that the club had begun contract talks with the Irish u21 international, with the club’s hierarchy reportedly opening discussions with Vata’s representatives at CAA Base.

However, any potential new deal hinges on his involvement in the first team, with Joseph reporting the player is keen to stay at his boyhood club if the right pathway arises.

There were serious doubts around Vata’s future at the club at the beginning of the window, with numerous Italian clubs showing strong interest in the player, but the tide seems to have changed with regards to Vata’s future in the East End of Glasgow.

The 18-year-old has made the past two first-team match-day squads, with the forward netting his first senior goal for the club against Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup just over a week ago. Vata was an unused substitute on Saturday at Celtic Park as Brendan Rodgers’ side struggled but ultimately secured the three points.

With both Oh and Daizen Maeda still involved in the Asian Cup with their respective national sides, it looks like Rocco Vata is the back-up striker to Kyogo.

Vata has proven to be one of if not the best academy talent at the club currently, netting 13 times in 16 games for the B team this season. Tying down the academy graduate represents extremely good business for the club, with Vata more than good enough to be involved in the Celtic first team.

Hopefully he puts pen to paper on this new four year deal over the next day or two.
