Fabrizio Romano confirms Celtic set to miss out on Vinícius Souza

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Celtic look is set to miss out on Vinícius Souza. The Italian journalist took to Twitter to update on the Brazilian midfielder as he is highly sought after this window. The Lommel SK defensive midfielder was a Celtic target but The City Group, who own a 60% stake in the player, want a loan deal for the player.

Celtic had been keen on the player but now it appears that La Liga outfit Espanyol are closing in on a deal to sign the player. It will be disappointing for Ange Postecoglou but as evidenced by the Riley McCree deal in January, the manager isn’t willing to waste time on people that aren’t interested in coming to Celtic.

Ange has already said that the focus will be on bringing two new signings into the club ahead of the league kicking off against Aberdeen at the end of this month. The club will be working on other targets and they will see the position at defensive midfield as a priority with Ismaila Soro nearing his departure following Nir Bitton’s exit in the summer. James McCarthy and Guchi provide cover there but another option is needed, especially with The Champions League so that Callum McGregor is able to go in the No.8 left sided position on occassion.
