Fabrizio Romano: Premier League eyes on Celtic star Cameron Carter-Vickers

Transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that English Premier League eyes are closely monitoring Celtic central defender, Cameron Carter-Vickers. The go-to guy about transfers the world over it seems is convinced that Ange Postecoglou and Michael Nicholson’s resolve could be tested this summer transfer window and that several Premier League sides fancy a move for him.

Romano was speaking on House of Champions Podcast when he relayed the news that the USA international has very keen admirers south of the border. Carter-Vickers, 25, has been nothing short of a revelation since he donned the Hoops jersey on an initial loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2021. His defensive solidity is one of the key reasons Celtic are back on top in Scotland and why Angeball has been so successful.

After signing permanently this past close-season in a deal worth £6.5 million plus add-ons, it was a hefty investment for the former Bournemouth man but one that has been money well spent for sure. Any potential move for Carter-Vickers would be rebuffed as he is integral to the workings of Ange Postecoglou’s team on a consistent basis and it’s noticeable when he is not in the starting XI.

However, Romano has insisted that interest from England will not go away and that we could see a bid arrive on Ange’s desk at Lennoxtown come June. For Carter-Vickers I think it’s going to be an important summer. “I am told some Premier League clubs are already exploring this possibility, he said. Of course, he already knows Premier League football so he could be a possibility in the summer.”

Despite this, the Italian also claimed that Celtic will fight hard to keep a man that is loved by everyone in the Celtic Family, and a player that the manager has included 31 times already this season – and that’s with injury absences taken into account too. He added: “But, Celtic will try their best to keep their players. Then, at some point, they will have to sell but I think they are well-equipped in this process.”

In any event, Ange Postecoglou and Michael Nicholson will be well prepared and have a contingency plan in place for every eventuality, such has been the complete sea-change in the Hoops’ recruitment policy of the past two years. He added: “They have to find a replacement before they sell the player. I think it’s not going to be easy at all [to keep hold of him]because Premier League clubs are always there, and centre-backs are always wanted in the transfer market. But I am sure they will fight to keep him.”

Yes, Fabrizio – we will indeed!

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
