Ferencvaros chief executive won’t stand in Robbie Keane’s way

Ferencvaros chief executive Pal Orosz has indicated the club would not stand in Robbie Keane’s way if he were offered the chance to leave the club amid Celtic speculation…

Keane – who previously spent time on loan at Celtic – has been linked with a potential move to the Scottish champions once Martin O’Neill steps down at the end of this season.

However, speculation has also emerged surrounding a possible return to Spurs, where Igor Tudor is currently serving as interim manager.

Speaking about the former Republic of Ireland international, Orosz reflected on Keane’s spell at the Hungarian club and noted the positive influence he had during his time there.

He added that Ferencvaros would take pride in seeing Keane secure a role back in North London should the opportunity arise.

Orosz told M4 Sport: “He had a good impact on Ferencvaros, as we can see. A true Irishman, hard-headed, but at the same time a very good figure.”

“He can win and motivate a lot, the players believe in him and that is the most important thing. A real leader.”

“If he really was mentioned with Tottenham, then we are proud, because in this way we made the right choice. And he also wanted to come here, and that is why he left his mark here.”

Meanwhile, Celtic youngster Colby Donovan has withdrawn from the Scotland Under-21 squad just days before the start of their qualifying fixtures.

The Hoops full-back had initially been selected for the upcoming UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifiers against Czechia and Portugal.

However, it has since been confirmed that Donovan will miss out, with Cameron Bragg and Kristi Montgomery also stepping down from the squad.

An update released by the Scotland national team on Wednesday confirmed that Ryan Carr, Josh Dede and Taylor Steven have been drafted in as replacements by manager Scot Gemmill.

The late changes arrive ahead of Friday’s clash with Czechia at Dens Park on 27 March, before Scotland travel to Estoril to face Portugal on Monday, 31 March.

Donovan’s withdrawal comes after he was forced off during Celtic’s 2-0 defeat against Dundee United at the weekend, having picked up a knock following a collision with an advertising board in the second half.
