Fletcher Door Closes as Bayo agrees deal with Toulouse – “Celtic proposal wasn’t acceptable,” confirms BBC senior journalist

STEPHEN FLETCHER will NOT be signing for Celtic, after the veteran striker was unimpressed by the proposal on offer from the Nine-in-a-Row Scottish Champions. Neil Lennon has been in no rush to make a final decision and the length of contract on offer from Celtic appears to be less than the free agent former Sheffield Wednesday striker was looking for.

Niall J provided one pretty insightful analysis of the striker situation at Celtic this morning on The Celtic Star and pointed out that Fletcher would be the ideal acquisition with Bayo being surplus to requirements for this season and about to join Toulouse. St Mirren were also keen in taking him on a season long loan.

“Toulouse have agreed a deal with Celtic to sign 23-year-old Ivorian international attacker Vakoun Bayo.” Get French Football have confirmed this lunchtime. More to follow on that one.

“Steven Fletcher update; Celtic proposal wasn’t acceptable, and player now looking at other options. StokeCity now favourites to sign him, although other English Championship clubs also interested,” BBC Scotland senior broadcast journalist Jane Lewis reported this morning.

Fletcher was prepared to move to Celtic on lower money than he will get in the English Championship but wanted a two year deal. That wasn’t something that appealed to Celtic who are believed to have been looking at a one season deal.

Fletcher almost signed for Celtic in 2009 but the club could not come to an agreement on price with Hibs and the striker headed south of the border during what became known as the Willo Flood Window. Ominously Celtic went on to lose the league that season.

However with very positive news coming out of England Neil Lennon will be confident that he’ll have the fire power to ensure that history will not be repeating itself…
