Forgotten Celtic man using Marco Tilio move for inspiration

Former Celtic singer Daniel Arzani has spoken about his injury plagued time in Glasgow’s East End whilst admitting he is taking inspiration from his compatriot, Marco Tilio. The winger sealed a £2.2m move to the Scottish Champions and Arzani has admitted he is buzzing for Tilio.

Despite being just 24, Arzani has been well travelled across his short career from England, Scotland and the Netherlands.

The record transfer of Tilio has Arzani dreaming of another move across to Europe as he takes inspiration from the Scottish Champion signing Tilio. Speaking to Keep Up, Arzani spoke up the move of Tilio.

“It’s really strange to say, but for me, it’s inspiring seeing [Tilio] last year doing well and seeing him get a move abroad. It makes me think I have the capabilities to do something like that as well. And why can’t I?

“I think Tilio going over there and getting a move, it’s good for Australian football, it’s good for him, and honestly I’m buzzing for him, I think it’s a really good thing.

“I went to Celtic. I was obviously doing well at the beginning when I went there, then injuries struck… that’s football.”

After being one of the standout young players at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Celtic were linked with signing the youngster from Melbourne City. However, it became clear that he would be joining Manchester City and soon after Celtic were being touted as his next port of call. Arzani arrived amid an apparent spat between Brendan Rodgers and the board; however a poor start to the season delayed his debut until Halloween at Dens Park. Arzani came on with Celtic 5-0, had a chance to score, created a chance and then slipped unchallenged.

It would be a season ending injury for Arzani, which ruled him out for over 12 months. Arzani’s progress faltered with that injury at Dens and he has failed to recover from it, having to settle for youth team appearances and one Scottish Cup appearance.

Loan moves followed from City to Utrecht, AGF and Lommel followed before a permanent switch to MacArthur FC before a 2023 return to Melbourne but this time with Victory.

Tilio meanwhile is back training with Celtic after an injury delayed his involvement in pre season with Brendan Rodgers’ side. The Australian Internationalist will hope that he can force his way into the manager’s thinking and replicate the success of countrymen Tom Rogic, Aaron Mooy and Scott McDonald.
