Former Celtic favourite Joe Ledley announces his retirement

Former Celtic midfielder Joe Ledley has announced his retirement from professional football. The Welshman was signed from Cardiff in 2010 and spent four successful years at Celtic. Although he has now decided to call time on his career at the age fo 34.

Taking to Instagram, Ledley detailed his career and the highs and lows that he had experienced across a 17-year career.

Ledley referred to his time at Celtic as a true highlight. “Signing for @celtic was a true highlight, an amazingly unique football club. There was no better feeling than winning trophies for arguably the most passionate fans in the world, cherished memories. Hail Hail 🍀”

Ledley who won three league titles, a Scottish cup and reached the Champions League last 16 at Celtic, has decided that now is the time to hang up his boots after a successful career.

Following his departure from Celtic, Ledley became a mainstay in the Crystal Palace team before joining Derby County in 2017. His career tailed off after leaving Palace but Ledley admitted to Si Ferry last year that he never wanted to leave Celtic and his time in Glasgow was the best of his career.
