Former Celtic defender Virgil Van Dijk appeared to relish the moment as his Liverpool side slaughtered Rangers at Ibrox. Giovanni Van Bronkhorst’s team were hammered 7-1 as the Reds scored six goals in the second half, including a six-minute hat-trick from Mo Salah.
Rangers took the lead through Scott Arfield and the centre-half, who often strolled his way around Scottish grounds, was attacked on social media.
The Dutchman said it was ‘a good night in Glasgow’ after he was quizzed on the result, which will he will hope will act as a catalyst for his side.
“What we expected definitely happened”
“It’s not a bad thing winning 7-1 over here”
“We know we’re in a tough period and we take it game by game”

Van Dijk never actually had the opportunity to play at Ibrox as the team that played there had yet to achieve promotion to the top division. Van Dijk did, however, sample a Glasgow Derby at Hampden as Celtic beat Rangers 2-0.
Van Dijk won two Premiership titles in Glasgow, as well as the League Cup under Ronny Deila but he also played European football, Champions League group stages in 2013 and Europa League Last 32 the following year. A £12m move to Southampton followed and two years after that, Van Dijk became the most expensive defender in the world after a £75m move to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
It was an impressive win for Liverpool but an embarrassing one for Scottish football as the home side capitulated.
