Former Celtic stalwart makes Howe suggestion

The hunt rages on in terms of Celtic’s lengthy search for their next boss, and although many names have been and gone over the past two months, there is one name that has been a mainstay the entire time; Eddie Howe. And further speculation from The Daily Record has seen Howe been further linked with the job; this time with Murdo MacLeod suggesting he is already picking his transfer targets.

Howe, 43, left AFC Bournemouth after his second spell – this one lasting eight years – following relegation from the English Premier League. Having taken the Cherries’ from the doldrums of League Two to the riches of the Premier League, Howe is viewed across football as an exciting young British manager who deserves his fair crack at the whip; similar to the profile of Brendan Rodgers and, dare I say it, Steven Gerrard – albeit he has much more experience than Gerrard.

He’s been using his knowledge in England to pick out players who are going to be available to Celtic.

However, speaking to The Daily Record, ex-Celtic midfielder MacLeod reckons Howe knows he will end up with the job at Paradise – and is more than likely already choosing his targets.

“I’ve felt with Eddie, if he’s been tied up with Celtic for the last six or seven weeks, then he’s been using his knowledge in England to pick out players who are going to be available to Celtic.

“Because obviously, so many people will be saying to the new manager before he even comes to Celtic ‘this one’s not going to be here and this one’s not going to be here. This one’s going, we’ll get money for them but you’ve got to go and get a new centre-back. You’ve got to get a new centre-forward. You’ve got to bring in better quality than we’ve got just now’.

“So everybody will be giving the new manager some details on who to get rid of and keep.”

We aren’t sure on whether MacLeod is somehow in the know with Howe, but if he is to be proved correct, then there may be extremely interesting developments indeed at Celtic Park. As always, watch this space…
