Former Celtic target linked with bizarre move to Manchester United

Reported Celtic target Benjamin Siegrist is being linked with a bizarre move to Manchester United. The Dundee United shot-stopper has always impressed when he has come up against Celtic, resulting in various links to Paradise. However, no move transpired in the summer as Celtic went for Joe Hart meaning that Siegrist, a free agent in the summer, can cherry-pick his next move.

According to a report by The Scottish Sun, the Swiss goalkeeper is a target for Manchester United as the Premier League giants look to rebuild after a disastrous season. Lee Grant and Tom Heaton are on the books at United with Dean Henderson playing back-up to David De Gea. The Spaniard is the undisputed No.1 but Henderson is expected to leave in search of first-team football whilst Grant and Heaton near the end of their deals.

Siegrist was linked with Celtic last season as Vasilis Barkas suffered. The goalkeeper said at the time he was ready to take the next step in his career.

Celtic could yet reignite their interest in the 30-year-old as a back-up to Joe Hart. However, the opportunities in England will attract the interest of Siegrist. United are said to have had someone at Tannadice last Monday for the Scottish Cup game against Celtic.

It would be a really surprising move for all concerned if Siegrist moved to Old Trafford. United are still searching for a permanent boss with Ralf Rangnick expected to leave the role at the end of the season.
