Former Celtic youngster seals Hollywood move

Former Celtic defender Eoghan O’Connell has signed for Wrexham. The Welsh side are owned by Hollywood A-listers Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. The National League club are making a push for promotion this season after falling short in the Play-Offs last year.

The 27-year-old is a product of the Celtic Academy and despite being tipped to breakthrough to the first team, he left having made just 13 appearances. Brendan Rodgers did, however, play him in a Champions League Qualifiers against Astana. Although, he was soon out into the periphery of the squad and left in the summer of 2017.

With spells at Bury, Rochdale and Charlton since, O’Connell will be hoping to make his mark with Phil Parkinson’s side. In more than one way, Wrexham are an exciting prospect for a player looking to give their career a boost.

On Sunday, Wrexham held EFL Championship side Sheffield United to an enthralling 3-3 draw. O’Connell will likely be involved in the Disney Plus show depicting life at Wrexham under the ownership of the Hollywood pair. Although, he is probably more interested in securing promotion.
